Exotic Aquatics of the Great Lakes Region: The Biology of Infestations: Their Causes and Consequences
Twenty years ago, it was just sea lamprey...or so it seemed. Today the list of introduced species threatening native habitats
and commerce throughout the Great Lakes region has grown alarmingly: zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil, spiny waterflea, ruffe, rusty
crayfish, purple loosestrife, and so on. Where do they come from? What impact are they having? Can they be stopped?
Exotic Aquatics of the Great Lakes Region features imaginative interactive displays containing models, specimens, photographs,
illustrations and games. These are combined with simple nontechnical text to explain the historical and biological causes and the
varied consequences of these infestations and how human activities and the biology of specific exotics have joined to make big
problems for both humans and native species.
