Hours are from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the regular school year and by appointment only in the summer.
The distribution of specimens (approximately 900,000 total) is worldwide, though the majority are from the northern hemisphere.
vascular plants approximately 600,000
bryophytes approximately 50,000
algae approximately 13,000
lichens approximately 140,000

In 2000, the Museum was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation, to install a compactorized storage system. The fungi and lichen collections have been totally renovated and a small portion of the plant (primarily monocots) collection has been converted. We are sincerely appreciative of the U.S. taxpayers via the National Science Foundation.
The plant and fungal databases are available on-line, while the lichen database may be accessed via the curator. Funding for this project comes from the U.S. taxpayers via the National Science Foundation and University of Kansas.
