VISITING INVERTEBRATES
An innovative education program that brings live animals such as earthworms, giant millipedes, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and snails to your classroom. Students will
learn responsible animal care, where and how animals live around us, and how invertebrates are different from—and similar to—humans.
The program includes:
- All equipment (aquaria, measuring tools, food)
- Live animals (new species of invertebrates on a regular schedule)
- Half-day meeting with participating teachers to match program goals to curriculum
- Classroom visits by museum staff at beginning of program and once every three weeks
- Field trip to the Bell Museum
- Field study on school grounds or nearby park
Visiting Invertebrates is designed as an affordable long-term program. Costs vary depending on the number of visits and the number of classrooms engaged in the program.
Minimum cost: $850
Funding to launch this program was provided by CENSHARE (Center to Study Human-Animal Relationships and Environments).
