Slender, erect plants, typically 2 feet tall, with alternate compound leaves. The flowers, each about 0.25 inches long, are in dense cylindrical spikes at the tops of the stems and branches. Flowers are bright purple-magenta, each with a large petal and 4 smaller petals, with 5 protruding orange stamens.
