Common Snipe
Gallinago gallinago
Size: 22.5 cm (9 in.)

Stocky, short-legged, pointed-winged shorebird. Explosive takeoff when flushed, rapid zigzag flight. Snipes have a very long, straight bill. Their legs are olive colored. They eat aquatic invertebrates and fish.
