The shortgrass prairie grows in the Great Plains, in the western border of the prairie biome in the United States, just east of the Rocky Mountains. It evolved in a dry climate, where only 12 to 15 inches of rain usually falls all year, most of it from April to June. This semi-arid climate has low humidity, high evaporation rates, and periods of severe drought. |

The shortgrass prairie you will be restoring is in a dry soil region. Almost all of this ecosystem is gonebut some people are trying to preserve and restore it. Can you build a shortgrass prairie? |
