Lesser Prairie Chicken
Tympanuchus pallidicinctus
Size:40 cm (16 in)
Habitat/Range: Sandy prairies and plains. Resides in Colorado, Kansas, parts of Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.

 

Smaller and less striking than the greater prairie chicken. The sacs the male inflates during courtship are red rather than orange.
