Short-eared Owl
Asio flammeus
Size: 40 cm (16 in.)
Habitat/Range: Open grasslands, prairie, fresh and salt-water marshes.
Eating Habits:The short-eared owl feeds primarily on voles and other small rodents. Small birds and insects make up a minor portion of its diet.

Short-eared owls have such small tufts that they are rarely noticed. A very round facial disc and tawny brown coloration are its most noticeable characteristics.
