| Object VR | Sandhill Crane Grus canadensis Size: 86-122 cm (34-48 in.) Habitat/Range: Shortgrass prairie, marshes, fields. The greater, Canadian, and lesser subspecies summer in a broad belt across North America from Ontario and Michigan west to British Columbia and north to Alaska and eastern Siberia. Most of the Midwest's Sandhills winter in Florida. Lessers, Canadians and the remaining greater subspecies winter in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Mexico. Eating Habits: Sandhill cranes eat plants, insects, fruit, amphibians, and worms. |

Large, graceful gray bird with long legs and neck. Red cap on forehead. Like all cranes, it flies with its neck and legs outstretched. Itıs the oldest still-living bird species. |
