  Killdeer
Charadrius vociferus
Size: 23-28cm (9-11 in.)
Habitat/Range: Open fields, golf courses, and prairies. Breeds from Canada south to the West Indies, Mexico and Peru. Winters south of New Jersey.
Eating Habits: The kildeer eats insects.

Robin-sized. Brown on top, white on the bottom, with two black bands across the breast. You will definitely hear this bird before you see it. These birds are ground nesters and will feign injury to draw predators away from their nest.
