Ron Bowen
Ron
Bowen is founder and current president of Prairie Restorations, Inc.,
a business founded in 1977 that is dedicated to the production and use
of native plants and plant communities within the built or manipulated
landscape. Mr. Bowen has been actively involved with native plants for
more than 25 years. His business has successfully collected the so-called
"local ecotypes" (native seed) of the primary prairie species and expanded
them into production fields so the seed can be harvested and used for
restoration projects throughout Minnesota and adjacent states. In addition,
he and other members of the PRI team provided expert consultation and
services for projects throughout the upper Midwest. In total the company
has now restored well over 3000 acres of prairie and wetland.
Mr. Bowen has received a B.S. in forestry from the University of Minnesota and was the
recipient of a 1983 Bush Fellowship (Leadership Program) to pursue graduate studies in
landscape architecture at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He has been a
long-time member of The Nature Conservancy and The Society of Ecological Restoration,
and is a member of many other environmental organizations. He resides in Dayton,
Minnesota, maintains corporate offices in Princeton, Minnesota and travels extensively
throughout the upper Midwest.
