Single Classroom Programs: In your school
Add some punch to your lesson plans with an in-classroom program by the Bell Museum's science education staff. Before our visit, we'll work with you to develop a program that fits your lesson plan and that meet state and national science education standards. Then, we'll provide everything for a highly interactive and unforgettable science experience for you and your students.
One-Hour Classroom Programs
Adaptation Presentation
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grades: 4-8
This energetic and highly participatory program explores the adaptations that aid animals in their survival. See live turtles and learn how their bodies are designed to fit their habitats.
Butterfly and Moth Basics
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grades: K-6
In this highly interactive workshop, students will learn to identify the differences between butterflies and moths, explore the life cycle of these animals, and trace their magnificent annual migration.
Dead Leaves, Decomposers and Detritivores

Introduction to Invertebrates
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: K-6
Insects are the most successful organisms on the planet, but they're also the most misunderstood and maligned. Find out why we can't live without them. Students will get up close and personal with exotic creatures like live giant hissing cockroaches and giant African millipedes.
Advanced Insects: Diversity and Classification
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: 3-8
Students will learn how to identify and classify insects using real Bell Museum insect specimens. They'll dig deeper into the differences among arthropods and begin to think about scientific classification systems using insect orders.
Invertebrate Diversity Inventory
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: 3-8
Find out what kind of invertebrates live in your neck of the woods on a guided exploration of your neighborhood and school grounds. Learn techniques to collect and identify your own invertebrates! Includes insect prep materials to start your own classroom insect collection. Offered April through November.
Minnesota Black Bears
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: K-3
Black bears roar to life as museum interpreters demonstrate winter survival techniques and bear behavior. Bell Museum educators will "transform" a student or teacher into a bear with props that illustrate adaptations. Students will learn about bear family structures and explore the challenges faced by animals in their never ending search for food.
Mustelids
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: K-6
From the least weasel to the giant Otter, learn what these animals have in common and why they are all grouped together in the weasel family. Participants will compare the five senses of a human to that of other mammals with a fun smelling game.
Predators and Their Prey
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $200
Grade: K-6
Students are challenged to rethink assumptions about predators and prey as they explore the important concept of animal interdependence. A video presentation and active learning exercises challenge students to track the populations of a pack of wolves and a herd of deer.
Prehistoric Minnesota: Mammals of the Ice Age

Fish Anatomy
Length: 2 hours
Cost: $220
Grades: 2-8
Give your students the chance to feel like scientists as they dissect along with a university researcher with a large screen TV for projection. They'll discover cool things about fish and learn about the function of unique organs like the gas bladder and hepatopancreas.
Insect Anatomy
Length: 2 hours
Cost: $220
Grade: 2-8
Your students will love this intense and memorable lesson on the inner workings of the insect. Students will learn insect biology and anatomy by performing a dissection on a Louisiana Lubber Grasshopper along with a university researcher with a large screen TV for projection. Bell Museum educators will be on hand in your classroom every step of the way.
Mealworms and the Scientific Method
