Spring Awakenings
Grades K–2
What do mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects have in common? They hibernate of course. In this camp, we’ll learn what changes have occurred in the animals after they hibernate through the long winter and what they do when they wake up. To learn about these animals we will meet a few of the reptiles and amphibians that live at the museum as well as do some experiments with insects and some hands-on activities to learn more about bats, bears, and many more animals.
Minnesota Wild…Edibles in the Northern Spring
Grades 5–6
What grows in Minnesota that we can eat? Corn, soybeans, sugar beets, sure…but are those crops native to Minnesota? And can we eat food that is just native to this Midwestern state? Learn about native Minnesota plants and plant communities (and how to identify them) through an exploration both inside and outside the Bell. We'll also talk about the plant cycle and what happens to plants every winter. Learn the skills you’ll need to scavenge your food for the whole season! And…if the weather’s right, we’ll even cook a meal from the food we forage!
