A Community Celebration of People-Powered Transportation

Bell Museum of Natural History
University Ave. at 17th Ave. SE in Minneapolis

The third annual Bike-In at the Bell brings together bicycle enthusiasts, transportation advocates, environmental groups, artists and community leaders for a celebration of biking and environmental sustainability. Part education fair, part community picnic, the Bike-In at the Bell is a chance for adults as well as children to have fun while learning about how their transportation choices can positively impact their environment and community.

BIKE-IN SCHEDULE

NOTE: Check back frequently for updates on Bike-In at the Bell activities and speakers. In the event of rain, the Bike-In will move indoors but will continue as scheduled. For questions call 612.624.7083 or email info@bellmuseum.org.

Outdoors In the Bell Museum Courtyard

  • Bike Carnival – games and activities for all ages.
  • Art Bike Station – decorate your bike for the art bike parade or make your own bike art.
  • The Hub Bike Co-op – learn about bikes and bike maintenance, make a bike-powered smoothie, or sign-up for the All-Star Mini Race.
  • Bike Work Station –get your hands dirty learning how to fix your own bike.
  • Food & Beverage Vendors – try some food from bike-friendly local businesses.
  • Family Friendly Entertainment – relax on the courtyard lawn and enjoy family-friendly music and entertainment.

Sign-up for the Treasure Hunt Bike Race!

Sign-up for the Bicycle Scavenger Hunt sponsored by the Hub Bike Co- op and the Bell Museum. Teams of up to six people can register beginning at 2:00 p.m. on the steps in front of the Bell Museum. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the Treasure Hunt Bike Race will begin at 4:00 p.m. The Treasure Hunt will challenge participants to a race against time and across the city. Each team should plan to bring a digital camera and the appropriate USB cable. For more information visit the Hub Bike Co-op’s website.

6 p.m.

  • Art Bike Parade – decorate your bike and join in a short bike parade around the neighborhood. The parade will be led by the Seward Community Marching Band, and cyclists of all ages are encouraged to participate.

7 p.m. – DUSK

DUSK

  • Short Film Showcase – Selected short films from local filmmakers.
  • RAD (1986) – The story of Cru Jones, a young man who must overcome obstacles to participate in the BMX race Helltrack. As he works towards his dream, Cru falls in love with Christian, an amateur racer. Can Cru and his friends on the Rad Racing Team defeat the top BMX factory riders? (1hr31mins, Rated PG)
