The Minnesota Breeding Bird Atlas (MNBBA) was officially launched on March 25th, 2009. The goal of the MNBBA is to document all birds currently breeding in Minnesota and map where in the state they breed. To accomplish this goal, hundreds of citizen scientists and conservation professionals will systematically survey part of 2352 townships throughout the state during the next 5 years. To learn more about the Atlas, please click here to view the project website. This website includes: a project description and objectives, how to participate, the project Handbook, materials necessary to conduct surveys, a Find-a-block feature where participants can browse for survey areas, a Photo Gallery, a Discussion Forum and preliminary results.
Thanks to all of the BCM partners who have been involved in the planning for the Atlas and provided funding for this critical conservation project. AND we hope that most of you will take the opportunity to bird with a purpose and submit your breeding evidence observations or encourage those you know to participate in the Atlas. Results from Atlas surveys will provide information essential to Minnesota bird conservation.
If you have any questions, you can contact the Regional Coordinator in your area (found on the project website, www.mnbba.org) or the Project Coordinator, Bonnie Sample, at bsample@audubon.org.
